direct embodied experience - the mentorship

Based on a diversity of approaches, ideas, and encounters, this work is derived from both eastern and western embodiment practices and has been presented with positive benefits in prisons, recovery centers, colleges, and movement centers.

D.E.E. is a Trauma-informed practice of body-based awareness rooted in communication, inquiry, and the belief in transformation that Margherita has developed to guide people looking for change out of their unhelpful patterns and into a greater ability to experience themselves and others without fear.

Available WORKSHOPS AND TRAININGS

Anatomy Geek out

This experiential workshop will provide participants with anatomical and kinesthetic comprehension of the musculoskeletal system of a selected body part. We will study the bones, joint biomechanics and muscles of the area, focusing and experiencing how they move and the patterns of muscle coordination that move them in various activities both with muscular engagement, in active and load bearing movements, as well as in passive positioning.

We will use images and models, manipulation of own and other bodies, and movement to explore and experience as directly as possible all the information provided.

No previous knowledge of anatomy or movement is necessary, wear comfortable clothes to move in.

Range of Motion: the Window of Tolerance of the body

This workshop explores more of the kinesthetics of movement: what does it mean to be “tight” or “flexible”, the difference between flexibility and mobility, techniques to increase movement range as well as stability.

An introduction to muscles and joints anatomy as well as peripheral nervous system is provided to create a framework of shared language.

Pain Science 101 & Making meaning

This lecture style workshop takes participants through the foundations of pain science. We explore, using scientific research, how pain happens physiologically, or how the body produces it.

The second part of this inquiry takes us into the meaning of pain, some ways to cope and deal with it, and a cultivation fearlessness through knowledge.

trauma-informed yoga training/workshop

Making yoga relevant in the context of Trauma healing and research.

“Trauma” has become something of a buzz word in the healing arts world. At the same time, we’ve been seeing a narrowing of the distance between clinical, western-medicine and science driven modalities, and holistic practices such as yoga aiming at awakening the innate potential of the body to heal itself. In this course we will explore Trauma and its effects from a clinical and historical perspective as well as from a whole body-practice perspective.

We will explore a variety of ideas related to these themes:

Clinical history of trauma, from the development of the diagnosis to contemporary research and perspectives. The differentiation between Acute, Developmental, Collective and Complex Trauma.

The symptoms and related medical issues for each, and how they can manifest in the body.

A history of yoga and how it can inform trauma research, with ample time to discuss trauma in the yoga room and how to change the paradigm of teaching.

An overview of the methodologies employed to deal with trauma from traditional to modern psychotherapy, and from a yoga practice perspective.

The Art of Waiting

Yin yoga, Anatomy, Poetry and Neuroscience

This is a cornerstone of my practice. It’s the soft and gentle cornerstone and it can get really uncomfortable.

We will use Yin yoga practices as framework to discuss physiological, emotional and social aspects of experiencing discomfort and pain, finding support, surrendering and enduring vulnerability and stillness. Yin yoga allows us to stay in inquiry and deepen all of those questions by holding poses "passively" for a few minutes at a time, and it offers a container to investigate themes such as range of motion, pain processing, the nervous system, and biomechanics of gravity on the ground.

Practice is accompanied by curated poetic narration, as poetry can guide us into a different way of neurological processing from the habitual logical pattern.

Subjects covered include:
Anatomy of bones and joints
Presentation of the pathways of weight in the body as guidelines for support
Definitions of stretching and Range of Motion
Somatic exploration of poses and transitions for sequencing
Foundational pain science and pain's effect on the brain and nervous system
Discussion on the ideas of vulnerability and surrender as they apply to this practice and to the wider cultural context and informed by Trauma Theory
Poetry‘s effects on the brain and investigation of abstract communication.

Held: the poetry and metaphor of support

In this workshop series we will explore the anatomical, psychological, cultural and poetic connotations of “support”.

Each session will have a component of discussion based on literature and research, and one of movement; we will use a different movement modality in each session to embody the ideas we introduced and cultivate experiential vocabulary around them.

No previous experience of movement is required, but some degree of curiosity and openness to exploration. Movement modalities we’ll use include yoga, developmental movement, somatic movement, and Butoh.

private sessions

Private sessions are available for Yoga Asana, Somatic Meditation, Trauma Informed Practices, functional movement as well as mentorships for teachers looking to deepen their understanding of any of the above. I travel to you, you can travel to my house, or we can meet at a studio (rental will be your responsibility)
